De Bacci Noble Family concluded their participation at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai, UAE.
COP28 is the world’s biggest climate conference that took place from November 30 to December 13 this year. The conference brought together over 70,000 world leaders, government officials and environmentalists.
Designed by the Presidency together with the High-Level Champions, with the support from the Marrakech Partnership, and the UNFCCC secretariat, COP28 united a diverse range of stakeholders – all levels of governments, youth, business and investors, civil society, frontline communities, indigenous peoples, and others – around specific solutions that must be scaled up this decade to limit warming to 1.5 degrees, build resilience, and mobilize finance at scale. This set of solutions constitutes the response to the Global Stocktake, looking where the world stands on climate action and support, identifying the gaps, and working together to agree on solutions pathways to 2030 and beyond.
The COP28 thematic program took into account the Climate Action Pathways, the Breakthrough Agenda, and the Sharm El Sheikh Adaptation Agenda, in order to drive the systemic transformations needed in every thematic area to fulfill the Paris Agreement. The climate talks ended with a deal that saw a commitment to transition away from all fossil fuels for the first time. This was a tremendous achievement, as never before COP has mentioned moving away from oil and gas, the fuels that have underpinned the global economy for decades.
Upon the end of the summit, the Ruler of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched ALTÉRRA, a $30 billion climate fund for global climate solutions. The fund will allocate $25 billion towards climate strategies and $5 billion specifically for the Global South. Previously, His Highness has declared 2023 the Year of Sustainability.
It was an honor to be a part of the 28th session of the annual United Nations climate meeting. Our Family wholeheartedly stands with the UNFCCC members and extends appreciation for bringing the world’s attention to the current global issues facing humanity, and creating a safe and efficient platform for all stakeholders to collaborate on and find solutions.
We extend our gratitude to the government of the UAE and the Ruling Family for their great dedication to saving our beautiful planet and hosting this groundbreaking event in Dubai this year. Many Blessings from De Bacci Noble Family.
